Italy is one of my favorite European countries to visit, and if you’ve ever tasted the incredibly fresh fruits and vegetables of Tuscany, or the rich flavor of Osso Buco, a quintessential Milanese dish, you’ll understand why. Italy as a whole is a food and wine lover’s paradise, offering a wealth of discoveries!

I’m thrilled then to have our first regional special event cover the marvelous region of Piedmont, Italy. Located just a couple hours west of Milan in northern Italy, Piedmont is home to some of the most celebrated wine, cheese, and food of the world, and if you’re a foodie or oenophile then there’s no doubt that you’ve heard of and probably enjoyed some of the products from this region.

We are inviting you to explore the wine and cheese of Piedmont on a special evening at SAVOUR. On Friday, June 25, Sommelier Cheri Walters and SAVOUR Cheesemonger Karin Collins will lead us through four flights of Piedmont wines paired with four cheeses from this region.

I met Cheri at another SAVOUR special event and she impressed me with her knowledge of wine and how she presented it to the audience. Never dull, her passion for wine shines through as she shares information in a non-intimidating manner.

Cheri has just returned from a visit to Italy, including Piedmont, and her passion for the wine and people is evident when she talks about visiting the small, local produces in the rustic villages which include Barolo, Alba, Asti and Barbaresco. She will share with us some of what she enjoyed during her visit along with a bit of the history of the region.

If you’ve been to SAVOUR and seen our beautiful array of artisan cheeses, then you’ve seen the work of our resident Cheesemonger, Karin Collins. In the last six months she’s transformed our barren deli case into a cheese heaven! On this special evening Karin will introduce cheeses that pair flawlessly with the enticing wines to create a sublime tasting experience, and she has plenty to choose from as Piedmont is home to over 50 varieties of traditional cheeses!
