Tall Grass Bakery in Ballard

Around the corner and up 3 blocks from SAVOUR is one of Seattle’s true bakery gems, Tall Grass Bakery. Their organic baked goods are hand-crafted by their professional team of bakers and highlight quality, flavorful and wholesome ingredients which result in rich, dig-into-it baked goods. They’re simply remarkable baked products and you can’t get much more local than 3 blocks away, which is why we began partnering with Tall Grass Bakery this month. Now all of our amazing sandwiches are made with their amazing breads!

Our top selling Jamon y Queso Panini is now grilled on their Panini rolls, our Roast Beef and Caramelized Onions sandwich is now happily housed on their Ciabatta bun, and our new, savory Whidbey Island Albacore sandwich was created especially by Chef Deb to be indulged on their rich brioche buns. We’re more than pleased with how our incredible creations are a perfect match for the great breads of Tall Grass Bakery!

And when you say bakery, of course you think of the sweet as well as the savory, and Tall Grass delivers on the sweets too. Next time you come into SAVOUR for a meal make sure to save room for one of their toothsome cookies. Molasses-ginger, shortbread, or oatmeal chocolate, all three are deliciously crunchy and chewy with just the right amount of sweetness.

When asked if we’d welcome displaying the children’s collaborate art pieces designed and made for the LHE’s annual PTA Auction, we said “sure!” never realizing what incredible pieces would adorn our walls.

Each class in the school collaborates with parent volunteers to produce works that includes the children’s art. These obviously talented parents conceived of an idea, worked with the children and created the finished pieces.

The art we have on display will be auctioned to attendees at LHE’s PTA Auction on Saturday, March 24, and rumor has it that the pieces go for some astounding prices. If you’re interested in attending the auction, buy your tickets here and know that proceeds from the event go to support and sponsor programs that enrich and expand the educational experiences of the children of LHE.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

Fall is defiantly here and as September draws to a close we’re pleased to tell you that Jana Lipscomb, of Jana’s Dessert Kitchen, agreed to make us another of her fabulous treats for our final week of the SAVOUR September promotion.

This morning Jana personally delivered a box of beautifully wrapped Peanut Butter Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, which are the perfect combination of a crunchy peanut butter cookie with chopped milk chocolate chips filled with a peanut butter ganache!

Come in this week early to grab one of these incredible treats, as we sold out last week!

We’re please to feature Jana Lipscomb, local author of the inspiring Jana’s Dessert Kitchen, for our third week of the SAVOUR September promotion. Jana’s heavenly Chocolate Pecan Tarts will grace our front counter this week, along with a copy of her recipe, to get you in the mood for the official start off fall.

For our second week we are featuring local food-blogger Ashley Rodriguez of Not Without Salt. Ashley’s blog is all about “sharing her passion for all things salted; sweet and savory,” and offers her writing, recipes, and stunning photography for helping her readers “eat well and enjoy the process of cooking and baking real, good food.”

The recipe that Ashley is sharing with us this week is Cardamom Honey Caramel Pears. The Northwest’s Indian summer and beautiful fall weather inspired her recipe that can be made from either apples or pears.  Stop by this week to try one of Ashley’s blissful pears that has been dipped in freshly made caramel seasoned with cardamom and rolled in ground hazelnuts.
