New Zealand was first discovered in 1642 by the Dutch explorer Tasman. The first Post Office of New Zealand was established in 1840. The Post Office was under the control of the GPO in Britain till 1848 when control was passed over by the colony. When the first New Zealand stamp was issued in July 1855 there were just 16 post offices and sub offices in New Zealand. These first postage stamps were with ‘Chalon head’ figuring Queen Victoria. The design comprises a full face portrait of the Queen in her state robes at the time of her coronation in 1837, by Alfred Edward Chalon. These stamps were initially hand cut from sheets. From 1862 onwards, automatic perforating machines were used for cutting the stamps. The Chalon heads were used until 1874, when were replaced by lithographed sideface stamps in various designs. New Zealand was the first country in the world to install stamp vending machine in 1905. What is digital circus rated?
